The Public Good Institute

PGI Academy · Institutional Learning

Build learning around the work your organization is actually facing.

Some questions are better worked on beside strangers. Others can only be worked on together — one board, one executive team, one government, with its own cases on the table and its own politics in the room. PGI designs and delivers that work: private cohorts, board learning, retreats and labs built on your actual decisions rather than a syllabus.

Two Ways to Learn with PGI

The same seriousness. A different room.

The Academy

Leaders from different organizations learn together.

The value is the mix: a deputy minister beside a nonprofit CEO beside a board chair, comparing how the same problem behaves in different systems. Candour is easier among peers who do not share a hierarchy, and the cohort becomes part of what participants take home.

Institutional Learning

PGI brings the learning inside one organization.

Some work cannot be done in mixed company — it involves your cases, your politics, your board. Here the room shares one context, so the learning can name real decisions, test real policies and end with commitments the organization can actually hold each other to.

Many organizations use both: a leader attends an Academy cohort, and what they bring back becomes the case for bringing the work inside. Neither is the junior version of the other.

Forms an Engagement Takes

Built from the decision you are carrying, not from a catalogue.

These are the shapes engagements most often take. Yours may combine several, or be none of them — the design follows the work.

Private executive cohorts

An Academy-calibre program delivered for your leadership group alone, rebuilt around your sector, your risks and your cases.

Board learning

Governance, responsible AI, risk and oversight worked through with the whole board in the room — so the learning and the accountability sit together.

Executive retreats

One to three days away from the operation, designed around the two or three questions the executive has been circling all year.

AI governance learning

From first principles to a working governance position — for the leaders who must answer for these systems, not the people who build them.

Documentation & accountability

Defensible practice built into how your organization actually records: what protects people, what protects process, and what can go.

Workforce leadership

The wellbeing-and-accountability tension worked with the managers who hold it daily, on your retention and workload realities.

Governance workshops

Focused sessions on a live governance question — decision rights, escalation, board reporting — that end in a position, not a summary.

Responsible innovation

How to adopt new tools and practices without outrunning oversight: pilots, guardrails, and the judgement calls in between.

Custom leadership academies

A standing internal academy PGI designs and helps run — a durable learning architecture rather than a one-time event.

How an Engagement Runs

Designed twice: once with you, once with your calendar.

01

The conversation

An hour on what the organization is facing. PGI listens for the decision underneath the topic — the thing that must be different afterwards.

02

The design

A short written design: who is in the room, what is on the table, what the sessions do, and what the engagement leaves behind. Priced before you commit.

03

The delivery

Sessions run where the work lives — your rooms or ours, in person or live online. Real cases, real policies, real disagreement, handled with care.

04

What remains

Commitments with owners, materials your teams keep using, and a follow-up point on the calendar — because the test of learning is what happens in the ninety days after it.

Implementation Labs

Where ideas stop being discussed and start being tried.

A Lab is not a course and not a consultancy project. It is a working environment PGI convenes inside an engagement — a team, a real problem, a bounded period, and the expectation that something gets built, piloted or decided rather than presented.

Labs exist because most good ideas in public-serving organizations do not fail; they simply never leave the meeting where they were praised. The Lab is the room where they have to.

From position to practice.

AI Governance Lab

A team takes its adopted AI position and builds the working machinery — the review points, the register, the vendor questions — against one live system, and pilots it.

From strain to structure.

Workforce Futures Lab

A leadership group takes one workforce pressure — retention, load, supervision — and redesigns the actual arrangement behind it, with the people who carry it in the room.

From referral to relationship.

Connected Systems Lab

Two or more organizations that share people but not systems work one shared failure point — a handoff, a data boundary, a duplicated intake — through to a tested fix.

Begin the Conversation

Tell us what your organization is carrying. We will design around it.

The first conversation costs nothing and commits nothing. It usually takes an hour, and it ends either with a design worth pricing or with an honest view that learning is not what the problem needs.

Engagements from $12,500 CAD

Scoped with you before anything is committed. All prices are in Canadian dollars; applicable taxes are additional.
