The Public Good Academy
Learning for decisions that matter.
The Academy provides practical professional learning for leaders and practitioners working across public-serving systems. Programs translate complex subjects into usable frameworks, better questions and stronger practice.

Leadership Across Complex Systems
Programs
Complex systems require more than information.
They require leaders who can interpret risk, exercise judgement, ask better questions and turn emerging knowledge into responsible action. Five programs, each built around a decision leaders are already having to make.
AI, Risk & Public Trust for Human Services Leaders
Move from AI curiosity to responsible organizational governance.
Most organizations are past the question of whether these tools are useful. The harder question is who is accountable when one of them shapes a decision about a person. Six weeks of structured work on the governance an organization needs before adoption outpaces oversight — and on the judgement leaders need when the framework does not yet exist.
Documentation, Decision-Making & Defensible Practice
Better documentation is not bureaucracy. It is part of safer decisions, stronger accountability and institutional memory.
Records are where an organization's reasoning survives staff turnover, scrutiny and time. Yet documentation load is one of the largest complaints in public-serving work, and more of it does not reliably produce more accountability. This program separates the recording that protects people from the recording that only protects process.
Workforce Wellness Without Losing Accountability
Workforce wellbeing matters. So does accountability. Leaders are asked to hold both.
The conversation usually collapses into one side or the other: care that quietly lowers the standard, or standards that quietly exhaust the workforce. This program works the tension directly — how to protect people and service quality at the same time, and what leadership looks like when those obligations genuinely conflict.
Public Good Governance Certificate
Oversight is not a meeting. It is a discipline.
A structured pathway for the people who answer for an organization rather than run it day to day. The work is governance judgement: knowing which questions a board must ask, where oversight ends and management begins, and how to hold an executive to account without taking the wheel.
Future of Human Services Leadership Lab
A small room, a hard problem, and people who will tell you the truth about it.
The Lab is not a larger course. It is a limited cohort of senior leaders working through the decisions that do not have a defensible answer yet — under scenario pressure, with peer challenge, and with the expectation that each participant brings a real institutional problem and leaves with a position on it.
All prices are in Canadian dollars. Applicable taxes are additional. Cohort dates are announced as each intake opens.
How Learning Happens
Built around practice, not passive attendance.
Formats vary, but the principle remains consistent: participants should leave with language, frameworks and tools they can use in their own work.
- Executive briefings
- Cohort learning
- Workshops
- Implementation clinics
- Organization-wide learning
- Short intensives
- Certificate pathways
What Participants Should Leave With
More clarity. Better questions. Practical next steps.
- Recognize risk earlier.
- Distinguish principle from practice.
- Ask stronger governance questions.
- Communicate complex issues more clearly.
- Make decisions with greater confidence.
- Translate learning into organizational action.
Institutional Learning
Build learning around the work your organization is actually facing.
A cohort puts one leader in a room with peers from elsewhere. Sometimes that is exactly right. Sometimes the problem belongs to a whole executive team, a board, or a service that has to change together — and the learning has to come to them.
